The race for the first smartphone with a flexible display comes down to the LG Vu 3 or a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 variant

The next big thing in mobile is going to be flexible displays and LG and Samsung will be the main competitors duking it out. Word out of Korea is that we could see offerings from both companies by the end of the year. LG’s Vu line hasn’t set the world on fire, but the Vu 3 could have a flexible display. As to Samsung, they don’t want to wait until the Galaxy S 5, so they are readying a Galaxy Note 3 variant with the same type of display.
Last month, it was reported that both Samsung and LG were going to start mass producing flexible displays this November. If that’s the case, then it’s unlikely this latest report will hold up.

I still can’t imagine that we will see anything this year from either company. My best guess, and this is only a guess, is that we will see actual product from both companies at CES in January 2014. This would mean a release sometime during the 1st quarter of next year. Still, the big question is who will be first?
