Twitter recently added two-factor authentication to the service that used text messaging for added security. In the age of smartphones, though, text messages aren’t the way to go. In the latest update to the official Twitter application, you can now set up two-factor authentication for your account and use the Twitter app to verify your log-in, no texting involved. Twitter’s official site lays out some basic instructions for those of you that want to get it set up:
- From the Me tab in the Twitter application, open Settings and then tap Security (Android users: you’ll need to tap your name before you can select Security)
- Turn on Login verification
- Store the generated backup code in a safe place. You will need to use this code if you need to access your account when you don’t have your phone.
- After you enroll in login verification, you’ll use the Twitter application to approve requests each time you sign in to twitter.com with your username and password.
Simple, but effective, if it works.
Twitter also updated the gallery view of photos you see when you search for anything in the app. It’s a nice, welcome addition that adds a bit of polish to the app overall. You can grab the updated app below.
