In an effort to fill out their flip phone lineup for some reason, Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy Golden for Korean markets. It’s a step up from their latest flip phone, the Hennessy, and will supposedly be marketed as a premium device. The only real “premium” aspect of the Golden is that it’s, well, golden. The paint job is a champagne gold color, which definitely makes it look more expensive, but I’m not sure it hides the lackluster internals of the device. For 799,700 won (or $720) you get a dual-core 1.7 GHz CPU, two 3.7 inch 800 x 480 displays, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. At a cheaper price point, the Golden may have had a fighting chance, but in its price range it’s competing with a Galaxy S 4 type device, and a Galaxy S 4 this is not.
If you really want a flip phone, live in Korea, and don’t mind dropping some serious cash for a phone, Samsung has you covered. For the rest of us, we’ll just watch from afar.
